We purchased our first Tesla in mid-2017, a Tesla Model X 75D. This was my very first exposure to Tesla, or any electric vehicle. The transition from a fossil car to electric was surprisingly easy. There are just a few things that car buyers going through this change need to be aware of. So, I thought I would put together the top 10 pro tips that I think every new Tesla owner (or prospective owner) should know. These are tips that I learned that helped make my transition from a fossil vehicle to a Tesla rather seamless (but not entirely without hiccups!).
Here are my top 10 'Pro Tips' (in no particular order):
Get in the habit of charging every night
Understand the impact of the outside temperature to the driving range
Use regenerative braking and one pedal driving to maximize range
Use trickle charging if visiting a remote location like a cottage or a cabin
Use a route planner for long drives (e.g. vacation)
If you have a passenger sensitive to acceleration, use Chill Mode
Camp in your Tesla in comfort
Pay attention while using Autopilot
Keep an emergency tire repair kit in your Tesla
Save money by installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet instead of a Tesla HPWC (especially if you have or buy a Model 3 SR+ since it only has a 32 amp on-board charger)
This list could be a lot longer, but the aim here is to start with a manageable set of tips that can be easily remembered.
